Mission
Message from President & CEO
Toru Okuda Ph. D.
It has already been long since they said that 21st century is an era of biology. The cutting edge technologies related to genomics and bioinformatics are prominent, but we have not yet seen their actual effects to real industry. In addition, the use of genetic resources is negatively affected by Convention
on Biological Diversity, whose conference (COP10) was held in Nagoya in
October 2010 as quite a lot of pieces of news are announced daily in papers
and TV programs. Under these circumstances, we regret to tell that applied microbiology
has been declined in Japan, inspite of the specialty of Japan.
HyphaGenesic Inc., thus strongly conducts and
supports basic and applied research and development of microbes for real
industrialization. We possess more than
20,000 newly isolated microbial strains - mainly filamentous fungi and wild mushrooms
- from nature in Japan. We use their
cultured extracts and extracts from fruiting bodies for industry. There are a number of promising examples such
as the case of a new pharmaceutical under phase I clinical study, the metabolic
engineering study for improvement of fermentation process for commodity
chemicals, and the transcriptomics study of edible mushrooms for quality
control as well as application of new genes and proteins for
cosmetics/nutraceuticals.
Mission---- HGI conducts and promote research and development based on
microbial resources for pharmaceutical, food, agriculture, chemical and
the other related bio-industry, introduces genetic resources and products
overseas, and supports the other bio-industry which would like to enter
a new business in Japan.
Image------ Hypha means one of the filamentous cells of a fungal mycelium.
HGI grows to establish a network just like mycelia of fungi to connect people, information and business.
